Garden plants that are safe for rabbits and Guinea Pigs

You can meet a variety of garden weed plants to feed the rabbits or guinea pigs. During periods of bad weather, when the animals are confined to their quarters, they will appreciate a handful of cuts of grass mixed with the built-in weed. They prefer relatively short grass prairie thick, long grass lawn, however. The supply of wild plants will depend on the season, of course, with the largest selection, which are available during the spring and early summer. Check that feed on plants that can be poisonous. If it is not in any way dubious, the better approach is to ignore the plants unless you are absolutely sure that do not harm your stock. As a general guide, they are safe to use as food:

Bramble (Rubus fruticosus): rabbits like especially young leaves. You can also offer greater leaves but has taken care that there are no thorns remain United to the stems if these are also fed. This is not a problem if you have one of the varieties grown without spines.

Chickweed (Stellaria media): there are several forms of chickweed and its distribution can locate more. However, it is a lush growing plant in good conditions and produces small white flowers.

Clover (Trifolium species): not an easy plant collecting in bulk, often occur sporadically in an area of grass and it is usually fed with grass. It is also often present in Hay.

Coltsfoot (coltsfoot farfara): this plant and its flowers are easily taken over by rabbits and Guinea Pigs. It grows in all types of soil.

Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale): easy-growing rootstocks if desired. You can offer to the flowers and leaves, but preferably with other elements, that this plant is said to have a laxative effect. As the summer progresses the leaves tend to die earlier and may appear stains Brown on the surface. It's probably best to avoid this condition leaves. It maintains in a sheltered, humid environment, however, plants continue to grow throughout much of the summer and well into the autumn. Other plants that are normally available a bit later in the season are various forms of Sow-thistle (Sonchussp.) and Sunray (Lapsana communis).

Groundsel (Senecio vulgaris): a common weed that can act as a laxative, but is often contaminated with a white or reddish fungus on the underside of the leaves. Do not use plants affected in this way to feed the rabbits and Guinea Pigs.

Mallow (Malva sylvestris): most likely to be found in an area approximately of pasture in the average Garden, but however useful for purposes of feeding.

Plantain (Plantago species): recognize various forms, and the plants are sometimes described as 'ratstails' due to its long this develop in late summer. Some types have more expansive than other leaves.

Shepherd's purse (Capsella bursa-pastoris): traditionally used by maintenance personnel of rabbit as a natural means of prevention for scrubbing, this plant is very distinctive when in flower. It has small white flowers, followed by characteristic triangular seedpods on the central stem.

Yarrow (Achillea millefolium): also known as Milfoil; This plant has delicate leaves of feathers and a composite head. Yarrow is most evident during the summer.
